Beginner Writers, Be Ready

This will hit you like a trainwreck

Dunning-Kruger Effect

You know what the diagram above is — you’ve probably seen it a million times.

The Dunning-Kruger Effect. Yes, we’ve all heard of it, we all know it, but if you’re a beginner, your still on “Mount Stupid”. Let me explain.

But, before that, let’s look at an example:

Say there’s a guy who just started out blogging called Jacob. Now, Jacob is not stupid.

He knows blogging is a long game. However, he’s ready to face failure (or so he thought.)

For the first few days of maintaining is blog, he’s feeling good. “You know, this might actually be lucrative!” he thinks. Ah, that fool.

He continues blogging on Medium, and the ‘dip’ that everyone seems to get on day 10 of Medium hits.

“I can face anything!” he thought, but he couldn’t. He got 0 views for days, despite his hard work. And so, he left.

Your life might be very similar to Jacob’s.

You may be getting a lot of views now, but would you still continue if you got 0 views 10 days in a row?

It’s easy to say yes while sitting on the couch and passively reading, but when you actually face it, no.

When you find failure in anything, you’ll quit. Even if it’s temporary, and you’ll get success after that failure, you’ll still quit.

This is because you don’t know if you’ll succeed.

You may be in the valley of despair. Get out of it. Just continue trying. You’ll make it.
