How to Memorize Anything
From someone who won a poetry slam
Hey,
Do you always have something on the agenda and you can’t get that lingering feeling at the back of your head away?
Maybe it’s because of stress, but you need to conquer your memory to gain some damn dominion over anything.
See, a while back, I participated in a national poetry slam and I won. But I was scared shitless.
So, back to the topic at hand, how do you memorize anything? A poem, a schedule, a damn novel?
Recite it, but a bit different
Most of us do reciting wrong, or at least not in an efficient way. For example, have you ever had to study a speech and read it over and over again?
There is a way to fix this. Take one part of whatever you’re memorizing and just repeat it at certain parts of the day.
This is more so for things such as spoken words or speeches, however, if you’re learning something else such as a test, use flashcards.
When you end up repeating it, you put it in your long-term memory, the part of your brain that begins to think it’s important.
When that begins to happen, you can do it with different parts. Or if you don’t have time, memorize the entire thing!
See you tomorrow.
